Wallpapers: 2011 BMW 3 Series Coupe

February 28th, 2010 Horatiu B. No comments

Last month, BMW has unveiled the BMW 3 Series Coupe facelift, the last update to the popular model before its design refresh in 2012.

Today, we return with a new set of wallpapers that could potentially end up on some of your desktops. But before that, let’s recap some of the important elements of this life cycle impulse.

Just to highlight the exterior enhancements that are easy to see; the front, lower fascia is now presented with subtle winglets on the air-dam, but more than that, the actual area for air flow is slightly larger than the outgoing design, also allowing for larger splitters at each end of the fascia.

One more styling difference from the previous design iteration; the corona rings, or halos, as some like to call them, are now bright LED units, with the updated E90 3-Series headlights making a coupe appearance.

The rear-lights are also modified LED look and finish. Though they were LED lights before, BMW added their new ‘L’ shaped design theme to an all new, almost E46 LED taillight, underneath the Ls. Holding the exhaust ports is an all-new bumper with a horizontal expressive line that shows the wide back end.

While the new exterior features and functions are a nice touch for all of us who love the 3-Series, the real news is the N55 inline-6 engine that first appeared on the new 5-Series GT. It features a single turbo with twin-scroll technology, direct-fuel injection and Valvetronic variable intake technology, along with being all aluminum. The engine still makes 300hp and 300lb-ft of torque with a 7,000 rpm redline.

However, the engine now builds peak torque at 1,200 rpm all the way to 5,000 rpm, where the N54 builds peak torque at 1,400 rpm. Peak horsepower is still produced at 5,800 rpm. So not much has really changed, just BMW making more torque available from startup, which is great. Also expect a slight increase in gas mileage due in part to valvetronic. The N55 weighs roughly 427lbs, according to BMW. The 328i’s N52 inline-6 goes unchanged with its 230hp and 200lb-ft of torque.

Juliane Blasi, the BMW Z4 exterior designer, led this LCI design effort.

In the U.S., the 328i Coupe and 335i Coupe start at $37,075 and $43,525, respectively, including $875 Destination & Handling. The all-wheel drive models 328i xDrive Coupe and 335i xDrive Coupe start at $38,975 and $45,425 respectively.

LED Angel Eyes on the BMW 3 Series Coupe facelift?

December 4th, 2009 Horatiu B. No comments

BMW 3 Series Coupe facelifted test mules continue to be seen during testing sessions. The E92 and E93 life cycle impulse models will make their debut at the Geneva Motor Show in 2010 with U.S. sales commencing in April 2010.

The latest spy photos show us again that the major changes in this LCI are around the headlights. The upcoming models will feature a slightly different design with the headlights now embedded in the front apron and have a downward curvature at the outer edge, as is clearly visible in our image comparison below.

Furthermore, for the first time the prototypes seem to feature new and brighter Angel Eyes, as seen in the new 5 Series. These rings are now LED daytime running lights powered by its lighter color and are even more obvious than before.

Apart from that, we expect headlights LED flashers like the E90 facelift, and the now typical “eyebrow” at the top of the headlights, similar to the one in the 7 Series, Z4 roadster, X1 or the new 5.

At the rear-end, we expect, as with any new other models, a slight L-shape of the light rod which will give the facelift models of E92 and E93 an unmistakable night-time look. Looking at the spy photos, the kidneys are slightly flattened at the top and they held just 13 grilles from the usual 14th on the current model. As with all the new models and thanks to the EU safety pedestrian regulations, much larger exterior mirrors caught our attention.

Front and rear aprons and side skirts are also rumored to received slight changes. Even though not featured here, one of the prototypes spotted was carrying the Vermillion Red pain that was not previously offered for the E92 models.

Engine wise, several rumors have been floating on the internet, but so far none of them confirmed by BMW. It is still uncertain on whether the new N55 twin-scroller turbo will be used or just an upgraded version of the current twin-turbo N54.

The upcoming 5 Series includes the new four-cylinder diesel engine with 184 horsepower, but once again, we’re unclear if this engine will be used in the current 3 Series line-up.

With a world premiere in Geneva, the first official photos should hit the web sometimes in January.

Spy Shots: BMW M3 Coupe to get a subtle refresh

December 1st, 2009 Horatiu B. No comments

Along with the 3 Series Coupe and Convertible, the Motorsport version of these two production models will also receive a mild life cycle impulse, or facelift as some of us call it. While the changes in the 3er Coupe and Cab are more obvious, the M3 Coupe will receive slight upgrades.

The spy photos captured these past days show that changes will only take place at the rear end where a new set of LED taillights will complete the already near perfect design of the M3 Coupe and Convertible.

Confirmed by our sources as well, the BMW M3 Convertible will follow the same path as the previous generation E46 M3 E46 with the taillights being the only major addition to the facelift.

The interior design is also rumored to get a small upgrade, with improved trim and a new center armrest. Still unclear if the heated seats buttons will now be located onto the air control panel, as we have seen in the previous 3 Series Coupe spy shots.

Spies: Facelifted BMW 3 Series coupe shows its M-Sport package

October 27th, 2009 Horatiu B. No comments

In 2010, the popular BMW 3 Series Coupe and Convertible models are going to receive a life-cycle impulse and test mules continue to be seen on the german roads. This is a mild facelift when compared to previous models, but there are some important changes, mostly at the front-end.

With the new M-Sport package, the E93 receives revised headlights, with a different “eyebrow”, similar to what we have seen in the E90 LCI. Also a new front bumper could be seen in the photo below, but the fine details are not available as of now. Even though unclear, the kidney grille seem to feature restyled air inlets, giving the new M-tech a more aggressive look.

Side skirts look unchanged, but other changes can be seen at the rear-end where a new set of LED taillights are being implemented.

The interior design also receives a mild facelift with updated trim and a new center armrest. The BMW 3 Series Convertible will also receive the ConnectedDrive system which allows for in-car internet access.

Both the Coupe and Convertible models are due to launch in Spring 2010 and there are no information on whether a price increase will be associated with the LCI.
