Introducing Frozen Gray Metallic Paint.

The special BMW Individual matte paintwork on the Frozen Gray M3 adds a rare metallic luster to the vehicle. Compared to conventional exterior colors with gloss finish, the sculpture-like character of Frozen Gray paint highlights the athletic contours of the M3. To achieve this luster, a special BMW ColorSystem silk matte clear coat is applied over the Space Gray Metallic base coat.

25 Years and Four Generations of BMW M3.

Racing provided the reason for the original M3’s 1986 creation. BMW produced the M3 as a road-going homologation version of its 3 Series to gain eligibility to compete in the German Touring Car Championship. Popularity and strong consumer demand substantiated the case to continue developing the M3, making it both a better performer and more inviting road car as it evolved along with the underlying 3 Series, the company’s most popular vehicle. In 1988, North Americans met the BMW M3 for the first time, and its high-revving 2.3-liter inline-4 with 192-hp became a legend on this side of the Atlantic.

The next generation M3 arrived in the 1995 model year with a 3.0-liter (and later, 3.2-liter) 240-hp inline-6 powerplant. That car began the next chapter of M3 Racing history which lasted a decade on both sides of the Atlantic. In 1997 the first M3 Sedan joined the family and the M3 Convertible followed shortly thereafter.

The third-generation M3, available from 2001-2006 as a coupe and convertible, again was offered with six-cylinder power, this time providing a remarkable 333 hp from 3.2 liters. From the 2002 model year, this M3 marked BMW’s first offering of the Sequential Manual Gearbox (SMG) for the United States.

The fourth and current generation M3 was introduced for the 2008 model year as a Coupe, Sedan, and Convertible, featuring an all-new 4.0-liter, 414-horsepower V8 engine with eight individual throttle bodies and an 8,400-rpm redline. Showcasing its remarkable performance envelope, the newest M3 Coupe serves as the basis for the M3 GT2 race car, which successfully competes in endurance races against the most exotic cars from around the world in the American Le Mans Series.

Photos: BMW M3 with Competion Package in Frozen Black Metallic

May 18th, 2010 Horatiu B. No comments

At the 2010 Beijing Motor Show in April, BMW displayed a new and unique color for the M3 family: Frozen Black Matte Paint. This is the very same color that BMW Chief Designer, Adrian van Hooydonk, mentioned in an interview with us at the Detroit Motor Show.

Today, BMW releases new photos of this exclusive paint that is available for the M3 with Competition Package. Another color available with the Competition Package is the Monte Carlo Blue.

The Competition Package (ZCP) was introduced recently in the U.S. market and it enhances the look of the super sporty M3. ZCP also includes 10mm lower suspension and 19” wheels with greater offset for a wider track. Remapped Electronic Damping Control and Dynamic Stability Control systems are also part of the package.

Design wise, modified rear lights with glass covers in a homogeneous red color provide an additional visual accentuation in the BMW M3 Coupe. With two harmoniously illuminating light banks fed by LED units, they create a characteristic nocturnal design.

The Competition Package is available on the Coupe and Sedan models for $2,500.

2009 was all about matte colors and throughout the year, we have seen several models sporting a black matte color.

2010 Leipzig Auto Show: BMW M3 Coupe in Frozen Grey Metallic

April 11th, 2010 Horatiu B. No comments

The Frozen Grey Metallic mate finish is slowly becoming one of the most popular Individual colors and our favorite one so far. It is based on the “regular” Space Grey Metallic paint with a special matte clear coat (FF95-0550) added for the matte finish.

The color was shown to the public for the first time at the Frankfurt Auto Show where BMW displayed an M6 Competition Frozen Grey Metallic. Just weeks later, we had the opportunity to see the M5 on U.S. soil sporting the same paint.

At the 2010 Leipzig Auto Show, BMW displayed a beautiful facelifted M3 Coupe sporting yet again the same Frozen Grey Metallic. The vehicle shown at the AMI combines the special exterior color with an interesting interior and Novillo leather.

Anyone willing to shell out some extra cash, they can build their M3 exactly like the show car and it is expected to retain its resale value, probably because the numbers of Frozen M3 Grey Metallic vehicles are limited.

Early last year, we started to see more and more BMWs featuring aftermarket matte colors or in some cases, a vinyl coat miming the matte look. A few months later, BMW unveils their latest gimmick: the exclusive Frozen Grey matte color.

In Frankfurt, BMW unveiled the M6 Competition model featuring the aforementioned matte paint. Fast forwarding a few months later, a member of the M5board, Avlnch, uploads some photos of the first BMW M5 featuring the new Frozen Grey paint.

To stay on the same note, yesterday, new photos of the same car are being posted again, along with a lot of mods that have been used on the car.

Let’s have a look.

First Frozen Grey BMW M5 in the U.S.

December 28th, 2009 Horatiu B. No comments

Individual colors are starting to become more and more popular amongst BMW owners. From Ontario Gold Metallic to Laguna Seca and Atlantis Blue, new BMW owners are spending thousands of dollars on some of the most exclusive exterior colors.

At around $5000 a piece, these unique colors are far from being considered inexpensive, but for some of the most loyal and enthusiast BMW fans out there, beauty has no price.

Now add one of these colors to an already amazing car, BMW M5, and you’re getting a gift that many dream of.
Avlnch, a member of M5board, has recently placed an order for an Individual Frozen Grey Metallic BMW M5, the very same color that made its debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show back in September, at that time, on a BMW M6 model.

The Frozen Grey Metallic mate finish is slowly becoming one of the most popular Individual colors. It is based on Space Grey Metallic paint and a special matte clear coat (FF95-0550) makes for the matte finish.

Looking at the photos below, we have to admit we’re a bit jealous to see that combination and we certainly look forward to more unique BMWs.

Thanks for the tip avlnch!

BMW M3 Frozen Grey Metallic

October 1st, 2009 Horatiu B. No comments

BMW introduced at the Frankfurt Auto Show a limited edition of the popular BMW M6 model. The M6 Competition Edition featured a new exterior color: Frozen Grey Metallic mate finish.

This Individual Color is based on Space Grey Metallic. A special matte clear coat (FF95-0550) makes for the matte finish.

We’ve seen some live photos of this color at the Frankfurt Auto Show just two weeks ago, but today we return with a new set of photos, this time of a BMW M3 Coupe as seen at a BMW dealership in Germany.

The color looks great on the M6, but seeing on the M3 Coupe as well just makes it stand out even more. In the past several months we’ve seen plenty aftermarket solutions of the matte finish, but it’s great to have it available as an Individual Option. Price? Unknown yet, but we’re looking into it.
